  1. Old-school VWs had air-cooled engines. No radiator coolant means no re-circulation of hot coolant through a heating system means no damn heat at all.

    They did have small electric heaters in the vents, but the usually didn’t work for very long before breaking, and who fixes things like that?! And they were very small because the alternator couldn’t keep up with heaters of any size.
