A little love came our way yesterday when the National Cartoonists Society announced its finalists for their annual Reuben Awards. Zits is one of three nominees for Best Newspaper Comic Strip this year. Okay, forget the fact that you haven’t looked at comic strips in actual newspapers in the last decade — you get the point. The winners will be announced at the NCS Reuben Awards dinner in Pittsburgh on May 25th.
Sometimes we are asked, “What do you do when you’re not writing and drawing Zits comic strips?”
Until now the answer has always been, “There is no other worthwhile endeavor in this sorry world, child. Now go away.” But recently we’ve taken up a new and entirely different passion: writing and drawing Zits novels.
Our first effort, Chillax is on its way to the printer just as fast as our editor’s legs can carry it. (Spoiler alert for the extremely sensitive: Back cover synopsis to follow.) Jeremy and Hector are planning to achieve a lifelong dream…going to a rock concert without parental supervision. But the Gingivitis concert falls on the same night their friend Tim is donating bone marrow for his mom, a cancer patient. Not a problem: Jeremy and Hector are determined to go to the show…for Tim.
Watch for the 300-page bundle of funny words and pictures this April. Totally legit and completely book reportable!
In honor of this most delicious occasion, I thought you’d like to put down your forks for a moment and have a look at a vintage Zits pie-centric strip.
Okay, back to your pie.
